Transforming from a woman to a mother
Motherhood is a blessing to all women and it needs a lot of determination to get there, you need to transform and upgrade from being just a woman to a mother. It isn’t that easy as it sounds. As a friend rightly said, pregnancy experience isn’t the same for all women. It is definitely unique and it differs from one individual to other. Even though I exercised and kept myself active I gained a lot of weight so did my little one inside me. He happily started filling my sack and gave me different experiences like nausea, excess vomiting, bleeding gums, sleepless night, severe headache, itchy stretch marks, a big tummy which gave breathlessness and even PUPP (rarest of rare skin disease) which left me with rashes all over my body. One thing I was sure about early on was that I would breastfeed as long as you can.
Epidural shots helped me deliver a 4.13 kg baby who got stuck halfway and had to be later sucked out of me. Just listening and following the mid wife’s instruction throughout, helped me have a normal delivery. There was this whole myth around how it is difficult to breastfeed a fairly healthy baby. Let me recount my experience on this.
Preparing for Breastfeeding and Sustaining: Breastfeed as long as you can
For the first six months, infants completely rely on their mothers for their hunger and nutritional needs. I actually stretched a little extra and fed my little one for two and half years. I prepared myself for the tenure, I added healthy food item like ALMOND, SPINACH, CARROT, FISH & GARLIC in my daily diet which made me lactate to meet my child’s needs. Feeding often can result in saggy breast and less production of milk is all just real myth and shouldn’t be a botheration for any mother. Regular workouts and activities can really keep us healthy and can also help us resume back in to our shapes.
Additionally, feeding can even help us shed extra pounds. Remember to choose a healthy diet plan and don’t eat excess. Be wise in choosing your diet. Vegetarians can include oats, garlic, green papaya and bottle gourd every day and non-vegetarians can include shark (sura) and Salmon fish (kaala meen).
Homemeade Herbs and Medicines
Don’t refuse to gulp all the herbs and homemade medicines like alfalfa (kudhirai masal), fennel seeds (perum jiragam), etc that’s being suggested. I, assure you, friends, these really work wonders. As long as you want you can keep feeding your little one, as it can keep you and your infant really healthy.
It’s better to start supplements, milk substitutes and other solids only after six months. Male babies tend to fall sick more often due to their poor immunity levels and hence providing them with healthy nutrients is very vital. So, expecting and young mothers out there gear up and prepare yourself to breastfeed your child as long as you can. My initial initiation has produced me unexpected results, today my child stands as a very hale and healthy boy. I am very sure it will continue helping him as he grows older also. I, as a mother, got to provide him with the best nutrients by best feeding him for a sufficient period of time, for a healthy future.
