Avoid eating raw or undercooked foods
Avoid eating raw or undercooked foods which include meats, fish and eggs. This will reduce bacterial infection for you as well as your baby. Bacterial infections from raw food can travel to your baby and cause permanent damage. This is why doctors usually ask to avoid sprouts altogether during pregnancy. If you must have, you can boil the sprouts and then consume. This goes for milk as well. Please boil milk well before consuming.
Avoid street side food.
One can never be sure of the quality of water used in such stalls. That pani-puri craving will have to wait till you go to a place where you are sure about the hygiene. Infested water may lead to typhoid, food poisoning, jaundice etc leaving you very distressed. Drugs to cure these diseases are strong and can affect your baby.
Same goes for sandwiches and juices from roadside stalls. Please avoid.
Vegetarians, take extra care
If you are a vegetarian, take extra care to make sure that you get most of the essential nutrients that are usually found in animal products – vitamin D, Calcium, vitamin b12, iron and protein. Talk to your doctor about diet and supplements.
No to artificial sweeteners
Avoid foods that contain artificial sweeteners. They are not an ideal choice during pregnancy and should never replace nutritious foods. Avoid beverages containing sweeteners.
Limit your intake of caffeine-containing beverages (like tea, coffee and cola)
If you have severe nausea during pregnancy, have smaller meals throughout the day. Cold items are more bearable when nausea is strong.
